Imphal: The Delhi Manipuri Society strongly condemned the brutal and cowardly killing of Chingtham Anand Kumar by suspected Kuki militants in Manipur’s border town of Moreh on Tuesday morning.
Anand, who was the SDPO of Moreh police station, was allegedly shot dead by suspected armed Kuki militants while he was on duty overseeing the cleaning of the grounds of Eastern Shine School, Moreh for the construction of a helipad jointly by State force and BSF.
A resident of Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai in Imphal West district, Anand was immediately rushed to the nearby primary health centre at Moreh where he succumbed to his critical injury around 10.15 am, the Waari Singbul Network reported quoting an eyewitness account, adding that the bullet hit on his back and passed through the stomach. While being treated, Moreh police were waiting for a helicopter to lift Anand to treatment.
The tragic incident perpetrated by Kuki militants represents a grave assault on the values of righteousness, justice, and humanity, Anand Wangkhem, Secretary of the Society said in a statement.
Such cowardly and inhuman actions against law enforcement agencies have no place in any civilised society and stand in stark contrast to the principles of peace and harmony that we as a community strive to uphold, it added.
The Society also urged the state government to take all necessary measures to enforce the rule of law both in the valley and hills of Manipur.
Questions the State government as to how long it will tolerate such anarchism and savery prevailing in the hill areas of Manipur, the Society said such the very incident couldn’t be described as a sudden or one-off incident but rather a part of continuous, and well-planned activities executed by the Kuki militants by suing foreign militia and narco-funds.
The Society further appealed to both the State and Central government to take prompt and convincing actions to end the worsening situation of the state and protect loss of lives and properties.
The government also should create an environment that fosters the safety of all citizens of the state, it concluded.
