Kolkata: The CPI(M)’s supreme decision making committee “Polit Bureau” has decided to work for the further consolidation and expansion of I.N.D.I.A bloc to strengthen the efforts to safeguard the secular democratic character of the Indian Republic, the Constitution, Democracy and People’s fundamental rights and civil liberties.

Sources said the Polit Bureau, however, has not taken any decision on sending any representative of the party’s into the bloc’s coordination committee.

The statement has not mentioned any discussion in the matter during the two-day meeting that ended in New Delhi on Sunday.

The sources here said the Bengal unit of CPI(M) is against sharing the platform with the Mamata Banerjee-led AITC and therefore the 2-day meeting did not have any discussion about sending any representation to the bloc coordination committee.

The anti-BJP bloc’s first coordination committee meeting came under the scrutiny of CPI(M) state leadership after they witnessed that the chair which was reserved for AITC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who could not attend due to ED’s summon to him in the alleged teachers recruitment scam in Bengal, was empty.

” They (bloc) could have put the sleepers of ( Abhishek Banerjee) as Bharat did keep his elder brother Rama’s paduka during his bonobus in the Ramayana,” state CPI(M) secretary MD Salim commented on the bloc’s coordination meeting.

Party’s state leadership is against sharing the same platform with the Mamata Banerjee’s led TMC.

” The Polit Bureau decided to work for the further consolidation and expansion of INDIA bloc to strengthen the efforts to safeguard the secular democratic character of the Indian Republic, the Constitution, Democracy and People’s fundamental rights and civil liberties.

“This requires that the BJP must be kept away from controlling the Union government and State Power”, the Polit Bureau media statement said.

” The Polit Bureau endorsed the CPI(M) position at the last three meetings of INDIA bloc in Patna, Bengaluru

and Mumbai to organise a series of public meetings across the country and to mobilise the people to ensure the defeat of the BJP in the forthcoming elections,” it added.

The party’s highest decision making body said efforts should be focused to further expand the INDIA bloc and also to draw in significant sections of the people’s movements in this effort, while all the decisions will be taken by the leaders of the constituents, there should be no organizational structures that will be an impediment for such decisions,” the statement said.
