Shillong: Newly-appointed president of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, Vincent H Pala has written to his party interim president Sonia Gandhi assuring her that the grand old party will bounce back to power in the State.
“We assure you (Sonia Gandhi) that we will strive to the best of our capabilities to turn the tide in our favour. We must create an effective anti-incumbency front and initiate consensus-building for our party workers,” Pala wrote to Gandhi.
Elections to the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly are due in February 2023. The National People’s Party is leading the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government with the support of the regional political parties and two Bharatiya Janata Party legislators.
“As witnessed recently, the development of events in Meghalaya, the BJP and its allies are precariously sailing in troubled waters. This is the right opportunity for our party to strategise and bounce back by planning our moves,”Pala noted in his letter, expressing optimism that the Congress party will be able to accomplish whatever great tasks that lie ahead of the party.
“As a team we shall overcome all the difficulties that the party has encountered and responsibly shoulder upon ourselves the task of rebounding back the party to glory and victory,” Pala further noted.
Stating that Meghalaya and rest of the Northeastern states have undergone adverse changes ever since the UPA-I and UPA-II rule led by the Congress came to an end in the region due to the polarized politics of the BJP, the three-time Congress MP said, “These negative changes can be overturned and capitalized into highly progressive ones if we work sincerely and honestly with a visionary mindset.”
Pala emphasised that strong leadership is the need of the hour, and it is extremely crucial for the road ahead. He also profusely thanked both the party president and Rahul Gandhi for appointing him as PCC president of Meghalaya.
Thanking the Congress president for shouldering the responsibility of leading the Congress party in Meghalaya, Pala said, “ I am confident that with your (Sonia Gandhi) blessings and guidance we will be able to accomplish whatever great tasks lies ahead. Unitedly and as a team we shall overcome all the difficulties that the party have encountered and responsibly shoulder upon ourselves the task of rebounding back the party to glory and victory.”
