Addressing veterans and their families during the 9th Armed Forces Veterans’ Day-2025 observance, the Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹10 lakh for soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. He also shared updates on the government’s commitment to honouring fallen heroes, including the approval of ₹3 crore for a memorial park dedicated to soldiers from Manipur. The park, set to be constructed on a half-acre site in Lamphelpat, will serve as a venue for future veterans’ and soldiers’ events.

Singh lauded the contributions of Manipur’s soldiers, highlighting that the state has produced two Lieutenant Generals and over 350 officers currently serving in India’s defence forces. He also mentioned meeting the Commanding Officer of a nuclear submarine from Manipur.

The Chief Minister praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in reducing India’s reliance on foreign defence procurements through the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. He also paid tribute to Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, who sacrificed his life protecting civilians in Afghanistan, and Major Bob Khathing for their exemplary courage and dedication.

Singh underlined the importance of understanding Manipur’s history and announced the release of a 22-minute film, Chahi Taret Khuntakpa, which will soon air on the History Channel. Additionally, Singh spoke about the rejuvenation of the Lamphelpat water bodies, a project covering 430 acres with an estimated cost of ₹650 crore.

Forest Minister Th. Biswajit Singh, delivering the presidential address, noted that the state has observed Armed Forces Veterans’ Day since 2017, underscoring the importance of honoring the sacrifices made by armed forces personnel for the nation.
