CM Biren seeks banks’ support in providing ‘one livelihood in one family’

The Chief Minister also urged them to join the recently launched ‘Sub-Division Development Monitoring Mission’ of the state government to identify the needs of the people for ensuring inclusive growth of the entire state.

Imphal:  Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Wednesday sought the support of public sector banks, especially NABARD, to lead in reaching out the government schemes and providing ‘one livelihood in one family’ for around 4.5 lakh families in the state.

The Chief Minister also urged them to join the recently launched ‘Sub-Division Development Monitoring Mission’ of the state government to identify the needs of the people for ensuring inclusive growth of the entire state.

Speaking at the State Credit Seminar, organised by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Manipur Regional Office, here, Biren said his government would send teams consisting of ministers and senior officials of different departments to hill districts, and to provide awareness to the people about the ill effects of poppy cultivation and provide alternative arrangements for poppy cultivators.

The Chief Minister further said that the main objective of the state government is to provide ‘one livelihood in one family’ for around 4.5 lakh families with no member with a government job or without any proper means for earning their livelihoods. NABARD and other banks can play a crucial role in reaching out and providing credit assistance to such families and help them start ventures for earning their livelihood, he added.

During the seminar the Chief Minister also launched the State Focus Paper 2022-23. Later, Biren also handed over awards of various categories to the banks. 

Indian Overseas Bank and State Bank of India were awarded in Annual Credit Target & Achievement, Manipur Rural Bank in Self Help Group Financing, Manipur State Cooperative Bank Ltd. in Joint Liability Group Financing, and Heingang GPLMPCS was awarded for Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) category.

An overview of the Credit Potential of Manipur was presented by DGM, NABARD Khai Siamlal Guite. 

Discussion and an interactive session focused on Financing of Agriculture and Allied Sectors, Cooperative Movement & Implementation of Government Sponsored Schemes, Stand up India & MSME in Manipur, National Horticulture Mission, and PMFBY, Credit Guarantee Scheme of MSME, Special KCC Campaigning and Agriculture and Banking-IT Role. 

Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur P. Vaiphei; Deputy General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, Imphal T. Lhungdim; SLBC Convenor Representative, SBI, Manipur M. Nimai Singh; DGM, NABARD, G. Thangchinkhup; representatives of different banks and other officials also attended the Seminar among others.
