Imphal: On Saturday, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh received the first consignment of food grains by train from Punjab at Khongsang Railway Station in Noney District. The goods train, which began its journey from Dhuri, Punjab on July 6, carried 949 metric tonnes of rice in 15 wagons.
Speaking at the reception event, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating the transport of food grains to the state via railway. He noted that trains carrying essential commodities had arrived twice before, attributing this to the Prime Minister’s commitment and the efforts of Railway officials, the Food Corporation of India (FCI), and security forces in improving the state’s conditions.
The Chief Minister also commended the Central Paramilitary Forces and the State Force for their dedicated efforts in restoring normalcy and peace in the state. He was pleased to see the local community actively participating in railway station operations, highlighting the strong work ethic of the state’s people.
N. Biren assured that the State Government had been proactive in preventing shortages of essential commodities during recent challenging months. He acknowledged the combined efforts of the FCI, Railways, security forces, and Central Government leaders in serving the state’s people.
The Chief Minister extended his thanks to Civil Society Organisations, Village Chiefs, and the youth of Khongsang for their support and cooperation. It was noted that 60 trucks from the FCI were ready to transport the rice to Imphal with a security convoy.
The reception program was attended by several dignitaries, including Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai, Hill Area Committee Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei, Noney Deputy Commissioner Sharath Chandra Arroju, NF Railways Assistant Commercial Manager Dipankar Sarkar, FCI Regional Office Deputy General Manager K. Satya Kumar, and FCI Imphal Divisional Manager Adani Mao.
