CM Biren launches skilling and Livelihood programme

Imphal: Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh inaugurated the ‘Skilling and Livelihood Programme’ at the City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, on Friday. This event was organized by the Department of Horticulture & Conservation, Manipur.

Addressing the attendees, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to economic revival and achieving self-reliance for the state. Acknowledging the hardships faced by the people in recent months due to an unprecedented crisis, he highlighted the importance of focusing on essential daily activities to restore the economy. He assured the audience that the government is taking all necessary steps to protect the citizens.

During his speech, the Chief Minister noted the increase in fish farmers in the state, resulting in higher fish production to meet local demand, which has significantly reduced fish imports. He also highlighted various government initiatives like Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang, School Fagathansi Mission, and College Fagathansi Mission, aimed at reducing education expenses and improving livelihoods.

The Chief Minister mentioned a recent meeting with principals of government and aided colleges, discussing the need to enhance student discipline and knowledge. He underscored the importance of conducting assemblies in colleges and singing the National Anthem and State Song. Additionally, the government is identifying students unable to attend college due to financial constraints and working on measures to enroll them.

He concluded his speech by urging everyone to compensate for the losses incurred during the crisis and instructed government and bank officials to address public needs constructively.

Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai echoed Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s vision for inclusive and holistic development. He spoke about various achievements under the Chief Minister’s initiatives and stressed the need for coordinated efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the state.

The programme included a technical session where resource persons discussed topics such as opportunities and benefits of animal husbandry, fish farming as a means of income generation, composting and vermicomposting methods, mushroom cultivation, and empowering youths through food processing.

The event was attended by Agriculture Minister Thongam Biswajit, CAF & PD Minister L. Susindro Meitei, Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo, MLAs, senior government officials, officials from the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department, and trainees.
