CM Biren distributes free school uniforms to girls, SC/ST/BPL students

Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated that the government had always maintained transparency in any development work taken up in the State. He made the statement while attending the free uniforms distribution function organised by Samagra Shiksha, Manipur at its Office located at Babupara.

The Chief Minister continued that booklets containing information of schemes introduced for the welfare of the people were also published to make people aware of the said schemes. Stating that providing better education is one of the priorities of the Government, he added that free school uniforms and books are provided to all girls and children belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes and Below Poverty Line Families in Government Schools up to class VIII. Such an initiative would ensure access to better education by children of poor families, he added.

Regarding the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in some states, N. Biren informed that the State Government had issued a notification making it mandatory for anyone entering the state to carry negative COVID-19 RTPCR test reports done within 48 hours of arrival into the State. He continued that the notification might cause inconvenience to those entering the state. However, the order had been issued considering safety of the people as the priority. He appealed to the public to maintain COVID Appropriate Behaviours all the time to prevent from getting infected.

Mentioning that Manipur had witnessed development in all sectors during the last five years, he informed that the government had also chalked out plans to develop RCC roads in Greater Imphal areas and other District Head Quarters to make it durable and sought constructive suggestions from the public on the same.

Education Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen, while delivering his presidential speech, stated that certain development works had been taken up in the education sector under the supervision of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The enrollment rate in government schools had gone up considerably after the introduction of the School Fagathansi Mission of the State Government. The government had been putting in all possible efforts to take the education sector of the State to a new height, he added.

During the programme, the Chief Minister distributed two sets of school uniforms to students of different schools.

It may be mentioned that two sets of uniforms are being provided to all girls, and children belonging to SC/ST/BPL families in Government schools up to class VIII. The number of students eligible for receiving free school uniforms for the current financial year is 1,41,445 consisting of 72,407 girls, 39,975 boys belonging to ST, 2,831 boys belonging to SC and 26,232 boys from BPL families. 

Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha Leishemba Sanajaoba, Commissioner (Education) M. Harekrishna, Director (Education/S) and SPD Samagra Shiksha, Manipur L. Nandakumar, ASPD, Smagra Shiksha, Manipur T. Phulen, Officials of Education Department, teachers and students of different schools attended the programme among others
