Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh extended his heartfelt best wishes to all Manipur athletes participating in the 38th National Games, motivating them to achieve victory and bring pride to the State.

The Chief Minister attended the blessing ceremony for the Manipur State Contingent, which will compete in the 38th National Games 2025 in Uttarakhand. The ceremony was held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Saturday. The Manipur Olympics Association of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur, organised the event jointly with the Department.

Expressing pride in the number of athletes representing Manipur, the Chief Minister acknowledged the challenges faced by the players due to the ongoing crisis in the State. However, he emphasized that true success can only be achieved by overcoming life’s obstacles.

N. Biren pointed out that Manipur is globally recognized for its contributions to sports, arts, and culture. He highlighted that the State has produced 19 Olympians, and in recognition of their achievements, the government has constructed the Manipur Olympian Park at Sangaithel.

The Chief Minister also shared that the government, in its recent cabinet meeting held at Tamenglong, has decided in principle to offer government jobs to National Games gold medalists. Additionally, he informed that the State is continually improving sports infrastructure, citing the ongoing Rs. 7 crore upgrade of the velodrome.

For athletes to succeed, Biren Singh stressed the importance of discipline and hard work, advising players to stay positive and never feel discouraged. He also urged that selection processes in sports should be fair and free from bias, as any discrimination would undermine the morale of young athletes.

Approximately 400 athletes from Manipur will participate in 19 disciplines at the upcoming National Games, accompanied by 76 officials from the Manipur Olympics Association.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Forest Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh, Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo Singh, Education Minister Th. Basantakumar Singh, Transport Minister Khashim Vashum, MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha Singh, officials from the Manipur Olympics Association, and athletes.
