Churachandpur: The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Public Ground, Hiangtam Lamka, where Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute as Chief Guest from 31 contingents, including BSF, civil police, NCC cadets, and school students.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner said Republic Day marks both the adoption of the Constitution and the reaffirmation of India’s democratic values. He highlighted the district’s resilience in overcoming challenges such as social unrest and displacement, and lauded officers and staff for their professionalism and commitment to constitutional duties.
Dharun Kumar outlined key achievements in rural development, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, including progress under MGNREGS and PMAY-G, improvements in aspirational blocks, and major healthcare initiatives such as the inauguration of CHC Saikot and the launch of nursing and telemedicine services. He also highlighted relief and rehabilitation efforts for internally displaced persons housed in 93 camps across the district.
The ceremony included the distribution of commendations to government officials, police and security personnel, civil organisations, and village authorities for their contributions to public service. Cultural performances by students and local groups added colour to the celebrations.
A friendly football match between the Deputy Commissioner’s team and the Superintendent of Police’s team ended in a 2–2 draw. Republic Day was also observed at sub-divisional headquarters across Churachandpur district.
