Beijing: The Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) remains on high alert and stands ready to take firm countermeasures against all threats and provocations, its spokesperson said Wednesday.
Shi Yi, the spokesperson with the Command, made the remarks when commenting on US and Canadian warships sailing through the Taiwan Strait, and added it will “resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity”.
On Tuesday, the US destroyer Higgins and Canadian frigate Vancouver made a transit through the Taiwan Strait and hyped it up, Shi said.
Naval and air forces organized by the Command were closely following and monitoring the US and the Canadian military vessels’ passage through the Taiwan Strait, from start to end, the spokesperson said.
