Raipur: Amid a political tug of war underway in Chhattisgarh for the past couple of months, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Monday that there should be no attempt to vitiate the atmosphere by repeatedly raising the ‘two-and-a-half-years-each’ issue after Congress’ state In-charge PL Punia made the position clear.

For the past two months, the Chief Minister – who usually participated in government programmes through video-conferencing from his residence – has suddenly become rather active. He is meeting social organisations and sections besides visiting districts. Last week, Baghel chaired a conference of collectors and police superintendents. He has been made the Congress’ Chief Observer for Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, state Health Minister Tribhuvaneshwar Saran Singh Deo is camping in Delhi for a week and has conducted virtual meetings with his department’s officials.
The Congress high command has not issued any clear statement on the issue.

During an interaction with journalists at the Swami Vivekananda Airport here before leaving for a three-day electoral visit to Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, Baghel was asked about Sunday’s on-stage clash in Jashpur between his supporters and those of Deo in the presence of the party’s state In-charge Secretary Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka.

“Such an incident could have been avoided,” Mr Baghel felt.
