New Delhi: The BJP-led government at the Centre will sign a peace accord with several Adivasi insurgent groups from Assam on Thursday, in a bid to further ensure peace and harmony in the Northeastern state, sources said here.

The tripartite agreement called as ‘Adivasi’ accord will be signed between the Assam government, outfits, and the Central government, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, sources told UNI.

The Adivasi outfits who will sign the accord include Birsa Commando Force, Adivasi Cobra Military of Assam, Adivasi People’s Army, and Santhal Tiger Force, they added.

These outfits have been on ceasefire.

Earlier this week, the Assam chief minister tweeted: “Held a meeting with rebel Adivasi groups, currently under ceasefire, regarding the final settlement to be signed on 15 September 2022 in New Delhi in presence of Union HM Amit Shah Ji.”

Sarma also expressed hope that the signing of the agreement will usher in a new era of peace and harmony in Assam.
