Centre approves auction of 730 FM Radio Channels in 234 cities

Shillong: The Union Cabinet has given the green light for the auction of 730 FM radio channels across 234 cities, paving the way for an expanded and enriched listening experience in areas previously untouched by private FM radio stations.

Since its humble beginnings in 2001, private FM radio has grown to cover 113 cities with 388 channels, becoming a significant part of the media landscape. This new wave of expansion is expected to create jobs in the radio industry while providing entertainment and information to listeners nationwide.

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, has issued a Notice Inviting Applications (NIA) for prospective bidders to participate in the e-auction for these 730 channels across 234 cities.
