Imphal: The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with the Ibotombi Institute of Education (IIE), successfully held a one-day “Capacity Building/Training Programme for Women Empowerment” on Saturday at Kha Naorem Leikai, Canchipur, Imphal West.
MSCW Chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, speaking at the event, emphasized the Commission’s crucial role in tackling issues such as domestic violence, discrimination, and harassment faced by women. She highlighted that MSCW serves as a safe and supportive platform for women to lodge complaints and seek justice, addressing a variety of issues including domestic abuse and cybercrime.
Thumlip further explained that the Commission carefully reviews each case before taking necessary action. In family disputes, the process typically starts with counseling, and if issues remain unresolved, legal measures are pursued. She also noted the rising number of cybercrime cases being reported, adding that while MSCW does not have direct authority over such matters, they collaborate with the cybercrime department to ensure proper handling. She urged participants to spread awareness about women’s empowerment and advocate for positive change in their communities.
Dr. R.K. Bijen Singh, Principal of IIE, stressed the importance of empowering women and expressed hope for achieving gender equality. He pointed out that despite years of independence, traditional gender roles continue to hinder women’s societal participation. Dr. Bijen called for concerted efforts to dismantle political, social, and economic barriers to ensure women’s full participation in national development.
Lourembam Dayabati Devi, a member of MSCW, delivered the keynote address, outlining MSCW’s initiatives for women’s empowerment and the importance of supporting women’s rights. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from MSCW member secretary T. Chuongsin Koireng.
The program was attended by dignitaries, students from IIE, and several other participants.
