Kuala Lumpur: The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Tuesday published the qualification regulations for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The qualification period starts on January 1 2023 for athletes to gain points for the Race to Paris rankings list. It will end on March 31, 2024.

For singles and doubles, athletes must have participated in their relevant event at a minimum of three designated qualifying tournaments counting towards the Race to Paris Paralympic Games Singles, Doubles, and Mixed Doubles Ranking List published on 2 April 2024. The exception is made if a player qualifies in doubles or mixed doubles and is required to play singles.

Para badminton has been given an allocation of 120 athletes (60 male and 60 female) and 16 medal events for the Summer Games in France.

An NPC can enter a maximum of one Doubles pair comprised of two athletes per Doubles event, one Mixed Doubles pair which must have qualified via the Race to Paris Paralympic Doubles Ranking List.

An NPC can enter one (1) eligible athlete per Singles event if they qualify via the Race to Paris Paralympic Singles Ranking qualification method. Athletes invited through Bipartite Commission Invitation may enter an event even if there are already two athletes invited via other qualification methods. Not more than three (3) players from the same NPC will be entered into a singles event.

Both players from a Wheelchair pair that qualifies for their Men’s or Women’s Doubles event automatically gain entry into their respective Singles events and are obligated to play in those events.

Every male SL3, SL4, SU5, and SH6 player who qualifies in the Mixed Doubles event automatically gains entry into their respective Singles event and is obligated to play in that event.

Every female SL3, SL4, SU5, and SH6 player who qualifies in the Mixed Doubles event automatically gains entry into their respective Singles event and is obligated to play in that event.

Badminton events at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will take place from 29 August–2 September at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena.
