Imphal: The Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Gugun Kipgen, a proud son of the Thadou community, and the entire team and crew of the Manipuri film Boong for their remarkable achievement in winning the BAFTA Award for Best Children’s & Family Film at the 79th British Academy Film Awards 2026!
This historic milestone marks the first time an Indian film has secured this prestigious honour, bringing immense pride not only to Manipuri cinema but to the entire Thadou tribe and the Northeast region. Gugun Kipgen’s outstanding performance as the young Boong has captivated global audiences and showcased the talent, resilience, and rich cultural storytelling from our community, a statement by the TSA said.
“We are deeply inspired by this success amid challenges and celebrate this victory as a beacon of hope, creativity, and excellence for our youth and future generations,” it added.
The student community also congratulated Director Lakshmipriya Devi, the producers, cast, crew, and especially Gugun Kipgen for their alents on the world stage.
