Prayagraj: Bodies of five persons of a family were recovered under mysterious circumstances in Nawabganj area of the district on Saturday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Kumar said that Priti Tiwari, her daughters Mahi (12), Pihu (7) and Pohu (5) were hacked to death in Khagalpur village on Lucknow-Prayagraj highway this morning.
“Body of the house owner Rahul Tiwari (40) was recovered hanging in the verandah of the house,” he said.
The SSP said that there were possibilities that either first Rahul killed his family members and later committed suicide of either he too was murdered and his body was hanged to cover up the murder. “Prima facie no injuries were found on Rahul’s body,” he said.
He said that Rahul was having a dispute with her in-laws for a long time. “Rahul’s family has alleged involvement of his in-laws in the murder. Police are probing the case from all angles,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has expressed grief over the death of five members of the family and said that those responsible for the heinous crime will be arrested soon.
