Bishnupur district celebrates India’s Independence Day with Patriotism and Progress

Bishnupur: The District Administration of Bishnupur celebrated India’s 78th Independence Day with enthusiasm at the Mini Secretariat Complex, joining the nation in marking the occasion. Deputy Commissioner Lourembam Bikram, IAS, served as the Chief Guest and led the celebration by hoisting the national flag, followed by the National Anthem.

The DC also inspected the parade and took the salute from 13 marching contingents, which were led by Potshangbam Sanjoy Singh, MPS, DSP (CDO-I)-Bishnupur.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner praised the District Police under the leadership of SP Ksh. Ravikumar, along with the CAPF and Indian Army personnel deployed in the district, for their relentless efforts in maintaining peace and stability.

The DC highlighted the District Administration’s collaboration with the Government of Manipur, the MLAs of the district’s six assembly constituencies, various Line Departments, local clubs, and CSOs in operating 46 relief camps, which have sheltered 9,026 internally displaced persons (IDPs) since May 3, 2023. He noted that the administration has provided the IDPs with skill development training, as well as health and education support.

Additionally, the DC detailed the financial assistance provided to those affected by recent natural disasters. He noted that Rs. 4,000 was distributed to 996 households, while 2,479 bundles of CGI sheets were given to 1,180 families, and immediate relief was provided to 1,495 households impacted by windstorms and hailstorms in April and May. For those affected by the May 2024 floods, immediate relief was granted to 2,980 households, with an additional financial aid of Rs. 10,000 given to 2,682 households. Furthermore, 326 households affected by floods in July and August 2024 also received immediate relief.

The DC concluded his speech by acknowledging the achievements of various line departments operating in the district and their contributions to the community.

As part of the celebration, certificates of appreciation were awarded to 159 officials, including District Level Officers, in recognition of their outstanding service.
