Imphal: Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Monday asserted that the state government must take full responsibility if any elected representative faces any harm.

His strong statement comes in response to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s alleged remark at a BJP event last month, where he reportedly warned that if legislators moved a ‘No Confidence Motion’ against his government, they would not be able to sleep peacefully at home.

Speaking to the media outside the Raj Bhavan after submitting a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Ibobi condemned the Chief Minister’s statement, calling it “uncivilized and unbecoming” of a leader.

He urged the Governor to advise the Chief Minister against using such language, emphasizing that moving a ‘No Confidence Motion’ is a democratic right and privilege of elected representatives.

Earlier, a delegation of Congress legislators, led by Ibobi and MPCC president Keisham Meghachandra, met with the Governor and submitted a memorandum on the matter.
