Imphal: Use of biometric attendance system (BAS) in all government offices would be mandatory from June 1 in Manipur to ensure punctuality, accountability and transparency.

The announcement comes after the state government made a 5-day working week (Monday-Friday) for all the government offices, agencies, bodies and public sector undertakings under the Manipur government with effect from 1st April, 2022.

Suitable adjustments shall be made in the system for officials/staff working on roster system, on special duty and such other duties requiring such adjustments, said a statement issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Government of Manipur on Thursday.

It may be noted that the mandatory practice of biometric attendance in all Manipur government offices has been suspended since March 2020 as a precautionary measure against the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.

However, the state government, after a Cabinet meeting held on April 21, 2022, decided to continue the system in all government offices.
