Shillong: In a poignant tribute to the late Keishing Clifford Nongrum, Maha Vir Chakra awardee, and to commemorate the Silver Jubilee year of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong, in collaboration with Singla Associates, organized a special event titled “Bike Rally – Freedom Drive for Independence.”
The rally, held on Independence Day, symbolized the spirit of freedom and patriotism, resonating deeply with the significance of the day.
The event kicked off at 9:00 AM from the Central Library in Shillong, with the family of Clifford Nongrum, the Kargil War hero who made the ultimate sacrifice, ceremonially flagging off the rally. Their involvement added a heartfelt dimension to the proceedings, reflecting the community’s profound respect and admiration for Nongrum’s bravery and sacrifice.
Participants from various walks of life, including students, bikers, and members of the local community, rode through the streets of Shillong, paying tribute to the freedom fighters and soldiers who fought for India’s independence. The atmosphere was charged with unity and national pride, as the rally celebrated the hard-earned freedom secured by the nation’s heroes.
Speaking at the event, Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong President, Rtn Antony War, remarked, “This rally is our way of honoring our fallen hero, Clifford Nongrum, and all those who have given their lives for our country. Having his family flag off the event is an inspiration to us all.”
Co-organizer Rtn Sahil Singla of Singla Associates echoed these sentiments, expressing pride in supporting such a meaningful initiative. “It is a privilege to partner with the Rotary Club to honor the memory of a true hero and to celebrate the freedom that our nation cherishes,” a representative from the organization added.
The rally attracted a diverse crowd, all united by their respect for the sacrifices of the nation’s soldiers and a shared desire to honor the legacy of Keishing Clifford Nongrum.
