Bhubaneswar: The Capital city of Bhubaneswar today became the hottest day of the state as well as the country with the mercury hovering over 40 degree Celsius Met sources said the mercury touched 40.4 degree Celsius today. On Thursday, the mercury touched 39.4 degree Celsius and the state capital continued to remain the hottest day in the state for the last three days.
Met sources said as many as 17 places in the state the day temperature rose to above 37 degree celsius
Meanwhile, anticipating a grueling summer ahead, the state government today rescheduled the school timing of the class IX to class XII from March one next.
As per the new schedule, the class IX and XI classes would be held from 7 Am ti 9 Am instead of 8 30 to 10 AM and the X and XII classes would be held 9 AM to 1 PM instead of 11 AM to 4 PM.
The government asked all the District Education Officers to take all possible precautionary measures and preparedness to tackle the heat wave situation during summer 2021.
The DEOs were also advised to ensure availability of safe drinking water in all schools including the repair of tube wells and store sufficient ORS in the schools.
The students will not be exposed to heat during the teaching classes and no physical activities like sports would be taken in the schools.
