Gangtok: Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) President Bhaichung Bhutia on Tuesday wrote to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) requesting it to probe alleged irregularities in the Sikkim Education department with regard to issuing of licences to private universities.
Bhaichung, a former Indian football captain, submitted a letter to the sub–zonal office of the ED here requesting its Deputy Director to probe the allegations of corruption in the department.
The letter alleged that the state government was not following the proper procedures in issuing licences.
“Requesting you to investigate the allegations of corruption in the Education Department of the Government of Sikkim. The evidence attached is highly suspicious as it suggests that the Government is not following the proper procedures. No request for proposal (RFP) notices for University licences implying no competitive process,” Bhaichung mentioned in the letter.
A copy of the letter was sent to the Director of Enforcement and the Special Director Eastern Region.
“The way assets of certain people have been increasing we have also asked for an investigation into those,” said the HSP President after coming out of the ED office.
