Cuiaba: Striker Eduard Bello scored with a spectacular overhead kick as Venezuela held Brazil to a 1-1 draw in their FIFA World Cup qualifier here on Thursday.
Gabriel Magalhaes fired the hosts ahead just after halftime with a glancing header from the edge of the six-yard box following Neymar’s corner.
The five-time world champions looked to be cruising to their third win in as many outings in the South American group before Bello emerged from the substitutes’ bench to change the course of the match.
The Mazatlan striker replaced Samuel Sosa in the 79th minute and sent most of the fans at Arena Pantanal into stunned silence six minutes later as he met Jefferson Savarino’s low cross with an acrobatic bicycle kick that beat goalkeeper Ederson at his near post.
The result leaves Brazil second in the 10-team group with two wins and a draw, two points behind Argentina. Venezuela are sixth with four points.
