Baku: Azerbaijan has revised upwards to 79 the death toll from this week’s clashes with neighboring Armenia, with hundreds of troops wounded in the latest round of fighting between the two regional rivals.
“The Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan has updated the list of those killed in the flare-up on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, bringing up the death toll to 79,” a statement read.
Azerbaijan put the number of those wounded during two days of clashes at 282, of whom 239 remained hospitalized as of Saturday. Two Azeri civilians were also hurt.
Fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan erupted along their shared border on Monday night. Both countries blame each other for firing first. Armenia says 105 deaths on its side of the border have been confirmed.
