Awareness and training on food fortification held in Thoubal

Dr. Y. Nokul Singh said the world is witnessing changes rapidly and the times we live in today are very different compared to the earlier days.

Thoubal: A training and awareness program on food fortification for staff and employees of various departments was held Thursday at the Conference Hall in CMO, Thoubal. The program was organised by Food Safety Administration Thoubal. 

 Inaugurating the program CMO Thoubal, Dr. Y. Nokul Singh said the world is witnessing changes rapidly and the times we live in today are very different compared to the earlier days. With the faster rate of development and subsequent changes in the environment, people are suffering from many new kinds of diseases. Most of the diseases are caused by malnutrition and to prevent such health problems food fortification is being taken up. He said food fortification will increase the nutritive value of the food. 

 During the PowerPoint presentation on Fortified foods, Designated Officer Food Safety Administration Thoubal, Yumnam Satyajit said fortified foods will increase the nutritive value. He said micronutrients like iron, vitamins, minerals and iodine are added to various food items like milk, salt among others. He appealed to the trainees to use fortified foods which have the +F logo on the cover of the food items. 

The training was attended by staff and employees of mid-day meals of School Education and staff of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution.
