Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles on Sunday seized gold worth about Rs 50 lakhs in the border check post.
Assam Rifles officials said Tengnoupal Battalion of Assam Rifles foiled cross-border smuggling of Gold biscuits at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi , Tengnoupal district.
During routine checking, the troops of Assam Rifles recovered six suspected gold biscuits from an individual. The gold biscuits weighing 997 gm were strapped to his thigh using a cloth.
The seized gold biscuits along with the apprehended individual were handed over to Customs Department, Moreh for further investigation.
In another incident in the same check post troops seized brown sugar on Saturday. On search of a vehicle, 269 gms of Brown sugar packed in six soap cases was recovered. The drugs were concealed inside cigarette carton. The seized narcotics are assessed to be worth Rs 53.80 lakhs.
The recovered drugs were handed over to Moreh Police for further investigation.
