Assam Rifles foils cross border smuggling in Manipur

Assam Rifles organized an Inter-Village Football Tournament at Youngoubung Village, Tengnoupal District, Manipur, from 01 November 2024 to 03 November 2024.

Imphal: In a significant move aimed at eradicating cross border smuggling, Assam Rifles captured a huge consignment of 350 sacks of  illegal areca nuts worth Rs 2.4 Crore at Khuga Village of Churachandpur District, Manipur. 

On 01 Nov 2024, three goods carrier trucks and one Tata DI loaded with illegal Areca nuts tried to cross Khuga Village at around 0200 Hr. Assam Rifles acted on specific input from sources and launched columns to foil the smuggling.

Assam Rifles intercepted the convoy at the vehicle check post established at Khuga and on checking, it was found out that the vehicles were loaded with 350 sacks of illegal Areca nuts in total, hidden beneath covers and cartoons.

All four vehicles were detained and handed over to Divisional Forest Officer, Churachandpur after a joint interrogation by Assam Rifles and Police.

Inter-village football tournament  

Assam Rifles organized an Inter-Village Football Tournament at Youngoubung Village, Tengnoupal District, Manipur, from 01 November 2024 to 03 November 2024.

The tournament was organized to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights and also Chavang Kut, the Harvest Festival with the local population in remote areas along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The event promoted sportsmanship, the Fit India Movement, and fostered peace, prosperity, and communal harmony.

Sixteen village teams participated in the tournament, which was held from 01 to 03 November 2024. The final match took place on 03 November 2024 between the Jungkhulet Memorial Team (JMT) from Moreh and D Zalenbung village. JMT, Moreh emerged victorious, bringing excitement to over 1,000 spectators in attendance.

The local community was delighted to celebrate Diwali and Chavang Kut with Assam Rifles and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to see their children actively involved in sports. The atmosphere was filled with joy, and the locals thanked Assam Rifles repeatedly for their continued support and noble service.

Volleyball matches held

Assam Rifles organized friendly volleyball matches with local communities at Shalluk and New Samtal villages in Chandel District, Manipur, on 02 November 2024. These events aimed to strengthen bonds and foster camaraderie between Assam Rifles and the local population.

Women’s friendly Volleyball Match at New Samtal was organized between Riflewomen of Assam Rifles and women of New Samtal village. The closely contested game concluded with the New Samtal women’s team winning by 3-1, showcasing impressive sportsmanship and skill.

Attended by 83 villagers, the event celebrated womenj7 empowerment, unity, and community engagement. Prizes were distributed to the winning team, adding to the joyous and supportive atmosphere.

Assam Rifles also conducted a friendly volleyball match with locals of Chakpikarong at Shalluk. The event was attended by over 30 enthusiastic villagers who cheered on their team, creating a spirited atmosphere. The match provided an opportunity for Assam Rifles and villagers to connect, and the initiative was highly appreciated by village chiefs. Efforts of Assam Rifles enhanced interpersonal relations with the community.

Assam Rifles extends heartfelt gratitude to the villagers for their enthusiastic participation and reaffirms its commitment to fostering unity and mutual respect through such community-building events.

Chavang Kut Festival 

Assam Rifles celebrated the Chavang Kut festival with locals in Sangaikot Sub-Division, Churachandpur District, Manipur, enhancing community ties and sharing in cultural festivities. The event was aimed at providing an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate, despite the ongoing circumstances.

The festival marked the completion of the year’s harvest, bringing people together in a spirit of unity and resilience. Prizes were distributed to commemorate the occasion, with over 50 people in attendance, making it a memorable and unifying event.
