Assam Rifles foils attempt to smuggle areca nuts
Imphal: Troops of Assam Rifles Sunday intercepted three Indian Trucks that were involved in the illegal transportation of areca nuts without the necessary valid documentation at Kangpat village in Kamjong district.
Upon thorough inspection areca nuts weighing approximately 18.6 Ton (186 bags), valued at Rs 2.2320 crore were seized. The confiscated areca nuts along with the drivers of the trucks were handed over to the Forest Beat Officer of Kamjong District for further investigation.
Assam Rifles is committed to preventing smuggling of contraband items, thereby thwarting economic damage to the state caused by proliferation of such items, as per a press note from the PRO, IGAR(S).
Arms and ammunition recovered in Manipur
Acting on specific intelligence of presence of arms and ammunition in the general area of Waithou Khongang Kachin in Thoubal district of Manipur, Asssam Rifles, Manipur police (including Commandos) launched a joint search operation on April 15, 2024 and recovered one 5.56mm INSAS Rifle, one 9mm Carbine Machine Gun, one Single Barrel Rif, three Grenades and ammunition
