Asian Youth Para Games 2021: India claimed 6 medals on an opening day

Bahrain: India had a fantastic start at the Asian Youth Para Games 2021 in Bahrain with six medals (one Gold, 2 Silvers and three Bronze) on the opening day of the competition.

Tokyo Paralympic silver medallist Praveen Kumar and para-shuttler Palak Kohli were India’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony held on Friday.

Khelo India athlete Ananya Bansal opened India’s medal tally with her Silver medal in U20 women’s Shot Put (F-2o category) with the best throw of 7.05 m, while Kashish Lakra bagged first Gold at the ongoing competition in the women’s Club Throw F-51 category.

Exit in the men’s Javelin (F54) event and Sanjay Reddy Neelam in the men’s shotput event clinched a Bronze medal.

By the end of the day, India added two more medals, with Vikas Bhatiwal’s Silver in men’s Shot Put F-46 category, followed by a Bronze medal win by Bennet Biju George in running 400m T-46 category.

At the fourth edition of the Asian Youth Para Games, as many as 700 athletes from 30 countries are competing across nine sports Para athletics, Para-Badminton, Boccia, Goalball, Para powerlifting, Para swimming, Para table tennis, Para-Taekwondo and Wheelchair basketball.
