Asiad sepaktakraw: India win bronze in women’s regu

Earlier, India had finished second in Group A behind Vietnam to make the top four. India lost 2-0 (21-16, 21-10) to Vietnam in the opening group game before beating hosts China (8-21, 21-17, 21-15) to ensure progression to the knockout stage.

Hangzhou: India won bronze in the women’s regu event in sepaktakraw at the Asian Games 2023 here on Friday.

It was India’s second-ever medal in the Asian Games sepaktakraw and the maiden one for women. The men’s regu team had claimed a bronze at Jakarta 2018.

The Indian women’s regu team, comprising Ayekpam Maipak Devi, Oinam Chaoba Devi, Khushbu, Elangbam Priya Devi and Elangbam Leirentombi Devi, lost to Thailand 2-0 (21-10, 21-13) in the semi-finals to settle for bronze. Thailand are the defending champions.

Indian sepaktakraw teams also competed in the men’s and women’s quadrant events at the Asian Games 2023 but failed to advance beyond the group stage in either of them.
