Bengaluru:Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka has been relieved of his responsibility as Mandya district incharge minister after an alleged opposition from local party leaders.

“Ashoka wrote to me asking to relieve him as Mandya district incharge minister since he has various other responsibilities. So, I relieved him,” Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai told reporters here on Friday. He added that a replacement to Ashoka will be taken soon.

“Ashoka is busy preparing for the distribution of title deeds to 50,000 people in Davanagere, and 10,000 people around Bengaluru,” Bommai said.

Ashoka is also busy with village-stay programmes across the state, CM said.

Ashoka was appointed Mandya district incharge minister on January 24, replacing Excise Minister K Gopalaiah, who was incharge of two districts, including Hassan.

His appointment met with protests with posters of “Go back Ashoka” and “Boycott Ashoka” cropped up in Mandya.

The opposition called this move to appoint Ashoka as Mandya district incharge minister as adjustment politics with JDS. Of the seven assembly seats in Mandya district, JDS holds six and BJP one.
