Kohima: In a remarkable act of courage and selflessness, an army officer from Rangapahar Military Station in Dimapur district, Nagaland, saved two young boys from drowning in the Dhansari River.
The incident unfolded on the afternoon of October 27, 2024, when two boys, aged 5 and 6, accidentally fell into the river’s deep, muddy waters while playing near the bank. Struggling to stay afloat, they were quickly pulled downstream by the strong currents.
Major Vishavdeep Singh Attri, who happened to be passing by, heard the boys’ cries for help and immediately responded. Without regard for his own safety, the trained swimmer leaped into the river and navigated through strong currents, mud, and tangled vegetation to reach the children. With exceptional bravery and determination, Major Attri successfully brought both boys back to shore.
The boys were unharmed and safely reunited with their relieved families. Local residents and witnesses praised Major Attri for his heroism and quick thinking, which averted what could have been a tragic outcome.
