Army commemorates Indian Organ Donation Day at Leimakhong

Kohima: Indian Army organized a comprehensive awareness campaign at Leimakhong Military Station, Manipur on the occasion of  Indian Organ Donation Day 2024.

An Army doctor conducted a lecture laying emphasis on the importance of the organ donation as a life saving measure. The attendees were made aware of the procedure for registration of willingness for organ donation, the benefits as well as the legal aspects of organ donation. 

03 Aug 2024 is observed as the Indian Organ Donation Day to commemorate the first deceased donor organ transplant, which was also the first Heart transplant done in the country, after promulgation of “The Transplantation of Human Organs Act” on 08 July 1994. A single donor can save upto 8 lives with organ donation and improve the quality of life for 75 people with tissue donation, thus making an impact in countless lives while alive and in death. 

The lecture was also followed by a pledge taking ceremony along with real time registration for those willing for organ donation.

The Indian Army remains committed to empower the troops with information thereby increasing the willingness of individuals for organ donation.
