Imphal: On 17 February 25, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted a series of synergised intelligence-based joint operations in the districts of Kangpokpi, Imphal West, and Bishnupur, which resulted in the apprehension of five cadres and the recovery of nine weapons.
Acting on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition in the general area of Tingkhai Khullen village, approximately 12 km South of Kotlen village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched a search operation. It recovered one automatic rifle, one .32 mm Pistol, one .22mm Pistol, four single barrel Rifles, one Mortar, ammunition and war-like stores.
In addition, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched four joint intelligence-based operations. In the first operation, on receiving intelligence of the presence of cadres, the joint teams searched the general area Housing Complex, Langol, Imphal West district and apprehended two cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) (KK Nganba) and recovered materials used in extortion activities.
In another successful intelligence-based operation in general area Leimaram, in Bishnupur district, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police troops detained a suspected individual, who on spot questioning confirmed his allegiance with the PLA. Items like mobile phones and cash used in extortion activities were also recovered from him.
In the third operation, launched by the joint teams in Yurembam in the Imphal West district, a suspected individual was detained, and he confirmed his allegiance to being a KCP -PWG cadre. A search of the individual led to the recovery of one Pistol, ammunition, and war-like stores. Similarly, a joint operation launched in the general area Uripok in Imphal West district resulted in the detaining of a suspected individual, who on questioning expressed his allegiance to the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive).
The apprehended persons and the recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police.
The conduct of joint operations and the resulting apprehensions/ recoveries exemplify the existing synergy between the security forces operating in Manipur.
