Agartala:After the closing of the nomination for the ensuing assembly election on Monday, the sixth BJP legislator of 12th Tripura assembly Dr Atul Debbarma who was dropped from the contest has resigned.
The letter addressed to Speaker Ratan Chakraborty Dr Debbarma didn’t cite any reason. Dr Debbarma has been known as an RSS volunteer and a renowned paediatrician who served in Delhi and was brought to Tripura before the 2018 assembly elections and fielded from Krishnapur ST reserved constituency of Khowai district.
He won the seat and was expecting a ministerial berth but he was not included in the cabinet, nor given any respectful position in the party or in the governance.
Debbarma was calm and quiet for the whole tenure, but surprisingly his candidature was dropped from the contestant list instead, BJP’s ST Morcha President Bikash Debbarma has been nominated.
Besides, Debbarma, five other sitting MLAs of BJP – Parimal Debbarma, Mimi Majumdar, Birendra Kishore Debbarma, Biplab Ghosh, and Arun Chandra Bhowmik has been dropped from the nomination this time.
The party has brought 23 new faces, but most of them are not accepted by the party workers, which triggered a serious reaction in party rank and files.
Within two years of the government, BJP MLA from Surma SC seat Ashish Das quit raising allegations against the then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. He was followed by the then health minister Sudip Roybarman, MLA Ashis Saha, Burbu Mohan Tripura, and D C Hrangkhal.
Alleging the same, three legislators of BJP’s ally IPFT Brishaketu Debbarma, Mevar Kr Jamatia (tribal welfare minister), and Dhananjoy Tripura resigned from the assembly.
All three along with BJP MLA Burbu Mohan had joined TIPRA Motha. However, except for Brishaketu, none got the nominations of Motha, which fielded candidates in 30 seats.
