Barcelona: Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev tested positive for Covid-19 despite being fully vaccinated, the world no. 5 confirmed on Monday.
Rublev took to Twitter, saying, “I am currently in Barcelona and unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19. I am in isolation and following all the protocols under the supervision of doctors.”
“I am fully vaccinated and was preparing for tournaments – ATP Cup and Australian Open. Now I have to recover and I will go to Melbourne only when it will be safe for everyone,” he added.
The Russian won the exhibition event Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi this month, which appears to have become a super spreading event for the virus.
Tennis ace Rafael Nadal, Denis Shapovalov, Ons Jabeur and Belinda Bencic had earlier announced that they tested Covid positive after competing at the exhibition event.
