Andhra Pradesh High Court sentences 8 IAS officers to 2-week jail, later revises order

After tendering an apology to the HC, it revised its order and instructed the IAS officers to serve in social welfare hostels for one day every month for a period of one year.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh High Court here on Thursday sentenced 8 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to jail for two weeks in a contempt of court case.

However the court directed them to serve in social welfare hostels for one day in a month.

The 8 IAS officers Vijaya Kumar, Shyamala Rao, Gopala Krishna Dwivedi, Srilakshmi, Buditi Rajasekhar, Girija Shankar, Chinna Veerabhadra and MM Nayak later tendered an apology to the court.

After tendering an apology to the HC, it revised its order and instructed the IAS officers to serve in social welfare hostels for one day every month for a period of one year.

The High Court also asked them to bear one cost of meals in a social welfare hostel. A High Court lawyer told the media that the HC objected to the construction of village secretariat buildings in the premises of high schools in the state and ordered the removal of the structure immediately.
