Shillong: The Meghalaya government has imposed a complete ban on inter-state and inter-district movement of pigs from infected areas after : disease was reported from a village in Ri-Bhoi district.
Principal Secretary of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department G.H.P Raju said report of the disease has been confirmed in Umshorshor village (epicenter) in Umsning Block, Ri-Bhoi District and designated as the epicentre of African swine fever disease.
He said the department has designated all villages falling within one-kilometre radius of the epicentre as an infected zone. Villages falling under the 10km radius surrounding the epicentre of the disease have been designated as surveillance zones, Raju said.
Moreover, several restrictions have been placed in these designated villages by the department.
“There shall be restrictions on movement of people from the infected premises. No person is allowed to take out pigs alive or dead, which are infected or suspected to be infected. No live pigs or pig feed or pork and pork products shall be allowed to be taken out of or brought into the infected zone,” the department ordered together with other restrictions.
