Active COVID-19 cases decline in Meghalaya

So far, Meghalaya has registered 83,962 confirmed COVID-19 cases, even as of the 11,71,230 persons tested for COVID-19 till Thursday, 10,87,268 were tested negative for the virus.

Shillong: The number of active COVID-19 cases in the most pandemic-hit East Khasi Hills, which includes Meghalaya’s state capital Shillong has been on the decline over the past several weeks with the district recording 54 cases of recovery as against 13 new cases of infection with the active case count at 197 on Thursday, health officials said.

The state as a whole recorded 64 more cases of recovery from the viral disease today, which surged the number of recovered cases to 82,227 besides 20 new cases of COVID-19 infection that added up to 273 active cases and the death of an infected person who was not vaccinated against the virus, which increased the fatality figure to 1462.

Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the new COVID-19 cases detected on Thursday also included three in West Khasi Hills district , two in West Garo Hills district and one each in Ri-Bhoi district and East Garo Hills district.

He said the number of active COVID-19 cases in the other districts have also been on the decrease with 24 in West Garo Hills, 19 in West Khasi Hills, 14 in Ri-Bhoi, eight in East Garo Hills, five in West Jaintia Hills, three in East Jaintia Hills and one each in South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and South West Khasi Hills while the North Garo Hills
had no case.

Meanwhile, 32,079 health care workers have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 28,434 have been administered with the second dose, 96,966 front-line workers have got the first jab and 81,256 have taken the second shot, 9,90,967 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 5,92,840
have been fully vaccinated with the second dose in the state till date, health officials said.
