Agartala: In the midst of uncertainty over the Presidentship of the ruling BJP in Tripura, opposition Congress Pradesh Committee Chief Birjit Sinha on Tuesday claimed that a sizable number of BJP MLAs have been in touch with him and are ready to join the grand old party.
Sinha told the media that BJP has grown in Tripura with the support base of Congress and in 2018 it came to power when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top BJP leaders had made tall promises of development, good governance, and corruption-free government but in the last 54 months, it was proven the reverse.
“The BJP has not only cheated the innocent voters but also defrauded the leaders of various parties to win the elections in Tripura. After getting into power, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb started abusing the leaders and workers who joined other parties. He has built a coterie to loot out development funds of the state and conspired against all promising leaders including his party,” Sinha alleged.
The BJP formed the government with 36 MLAs where 29 were from Congress, two from CPI-M, and one from Trinamool Congress, and all eight legislators of alliance partner IPFT were from Congress background.
Most of them became frustrated after a year in the government and the then Chief Minister in connivance with some BJP leaders in Delhi started persuading political vendetta against the leaders and MLAs who had opposed the misrule of Biplab Deb, he claimed.
Sinha said barring a few ministers and leaders who have been flashed up in Biplab’s rule, all turned hostile after getting the indications that the majority of the sitting MLAs of BJP would not be given the ticket in the next elections, which are scheduled barely after six months and added, “Now a sizable number of MLAs and BJP leaders wanted to return Congress.”
He attributed a lot of political surprises are on the anvil but people have to wait for the next few days to experience them practically. Congress has a history of more than 100 years and many people come and go in between, but it doesn’t hamper the party. Indicating BJP, Sinha said that the party which got birth to the Congress people cannot survive for a long time in this country.
He alleged that BJP has been doing politics of threat, intimidation, and physical assault on the opposition supporters from the first day.
The criminals and anti-social elements took shelter in BJP and became members of BJP’s motor bike-borne miscreants gang, which now people started presenting in an organized manner. And, within the next few days the total situation of the state would change, Sinha added.
