Imphal: Manipur State Archaeology, under the aegis of Department of Art & Culture, Manipur has observed the Inaugural Function of “10 Days Cleanliness Drive & Awareness Programme at Historical Sites of Manipur” at Kangla as a part of Seva Sankalp Abhiyan.
Chief Guest of the Function: Naorem Praveen Singh, IAS, Secretary (Art & Culture), Government of Manipur said Cleanliness is deeply rooted in our culture, as seen in our traditional practice of cleaning homes for Cheiraoba and other major occasions. However, continuous awareness programmes remain essential to instill and reinforce these vital habits in our youth and citizens. By prioritizing the upkeep and beautification of Kangla, we can draw more tourists, boost local revenue, and ultimately transform Kangla into a self-sustaining heritage site for Manipur.
President of the Function: M. Nando Singh, Municipal Commissioner, Imphal Municipal Corporation also reflected similar view. He further said, Kangla has been selected as a key destination in Manipur under the “Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative” (CHHCI). Emphasizing that civic duty and community participation are vital to maintaining a clean Imphal City. He stated that the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) will soon install dustbins, educational slogans, and targeted sanitation infrastructure within Kangla to establish a completely clean and pollutant-free zone.
As a part of the programme, Shashikanta Sharma K, Superintendent, Manipur State Archaeology, Manipur stated that sanitation and maintenance workers are often invisible in our daily lives, yet the scale of the labour they perform is monumental. Events like this are vital because they remind us to recognize their true value and immense contribution to society. We extend our deepest gratitude to these dedicated workers for their tireless efforts in keeping Kangla clean and pristine.

On the sideline of the function, “Clean Himalayan Hill Cities Initiative of Kangla” was also launched. IMC also donated dustbins to Kangla Board.
