Chandel: Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), organised a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony at Modi Garrison, Chandel District, to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of four valiant soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty on 09 September 1963.
The ceremony paid homage to Havaldar Maniliana Lushai, Rifleman Damor Bahadur, Rifleman Satal Singh Rai and Rifleman Mande Thapa, who displayed exceptional courage and indomitable spirit while confronting insurgents near Zunheboto in the Sapotabhi area of Nagaland. In the face of grave danger, their gallant actions reflected the highest traditions of Assam Rifles and remain an enduring testimony to the values of duty, honour and service before self.
All ranks assembled to offer floral tributes and observed a solemn silence in memory of the fallen heroes. The gathering reflected upon their bravery and sacrifice, which continue to inspire successive generations of Assam Rifles personnel. Conducted with full military decorum, the ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the courage and devotion of the four soldiers whose legacy is permanently etched in the proud history of the Force.
The tribute not only honoured their memory but also underscored the lasting impact of their sacrifice, reinforcing the collective resolve of Assam Rifles to uphold the ideals for which these bravehearts gave their lives.
