Pherzawl holds consultation on barak river catchment conservation

Pherzawl: The District Administration, Pherzawl today organised Preliminary Consultation and Coordination Meeting at the Conference Hall of DC Camp Office on the proposed “Conservation and Restoration of Catchment Areas of Barak River in  the States of Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland” in respect of Pherzawl district. The meeting was held to assess the feasibility of the project and discuss the collection of relevant baseline data and information for the proposed feasibility study.

The meeting was chaired by Lalthazam, ADC Pherzawl and attended by Abhijith KV, IFS, DFO Churachandpur, Zosanglur Joute, ADC & i/c SDO Parbung, S. Khaikhopau Ngaihte, i/c SDO Vangai, various district level officers and representatives of concern line departments.

During the meeting, Mr.Arduki C. Khyriemmujat, Manager (NR&PM), North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society (NERCORMS) made a presentation on the proposed project covering its objectives, major components, expected outcomes and its implementation framework.

Representatives of various line departments including Agriculture, PWD, PHED, Forest, Horticulture among others shared relevant background information and data available with their respective departments to support the feasibility study.

The Feasibility Study team is expected to undertake further field visits across the five districts covered under the project along with state-level consultations and briefings in the coming months.

The proposed project covers Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland and is supported by the Government of India and KfW Germany. The North Eastern Council (NEC) in collaboration with NERCORMS, is the implementing agency.
