Imphal : On 28 August 2026, at 11:00 AM, Assam Rifles, under its Memorandum of Understanding with Manipur University, convened an intellectual seminar titled ‘Manipur Situation: Prevailing Trust Deficit and Path Towards Trust Building’ at the Manipur Film Development Society Hall, Palace Compound, Imphal in Imphal East district, Manipur.
The event commenced with the arrival of Chief Guest Shri Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Honourable Chief Minister of Manipur. The gathering was graced by the Chief Secretary of Manipur, Security Advisor of Manipur, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, Director General Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, GOC 3 Corps, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) and GOC 57 Division, alongside senior civil and security dignitaries.
Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera presented keynote remarks, followed by a speech from the Chief Minister, who appreciated the initiative and called for dialogue amongst all stakeholders for peace by building trust and hope. Renowned author Mr Sudeep Chakravarti shared insights on the situation, trust deficits and pathways to stability. The session contextualised ethnic conflict since May 2023 over Scheduled Tribe status, land, resources, migration and representation, which caused over 250 deaths, 60,000 displacements and state partitioning, culminating in President’s Rule in February 2026 under the new administration. With violence drawing in the Naga community, participants stressed overcoming trust deficits across inter-community, institutional and political levels.
