Churachandpur: In response to severe infrastructure damage caused by continuous heavy rainfall in Churachandpur district, Manipur, Assam Rifles successfully restored critical road connectivity near Tuibong. The relentless rains triggered a soil slide that severely damaged the approach embankment of a vital road bridge, washing away approximately 6 metres of the road approach along an 8-metre-high embankment. This disruption severed essential access for nearby villages and a local school.
Mobilising swiftly under Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, a team of 10 personnel from Assam Rifles undertook extensive restoration work from 22 August 2026 to 27 August 2026. Working in close coordination with local village volunteers and without engaging outside contractors, the team stabilised the damaged embankment by constructing tiered HESCO barriers followed by comprehensive earthwork to rebuild the road approach.
Upon completing structural repairs, Assam Rifles personnel conducted post-repair load validation by moving a 12-tonne vehicle and a 5-tonne vehicle across the restored stretch. Following satisfactory load testing, the road was reopened for pedestrians, two-wheelers and four-wheelers, successfully restoring vital connectivity for local residents and schoolchildren. This timely intervention highlights the operational readiness, engineering capabilities and unwavering commitment of Assam Rifles towards community assistance during natural calamities.
