Churachandpur: Assam Rifles observed a solemn day of remembrance on 06 August 2026 by organising wreath-laying ceremonies across different locations to honour the supreme sacrifices and enduring legacy of its fallen heroes.
The solemn commemoration took place at the Unit Memorial of Assam Rifles in Veng marking the 60th anniversary of the martyrdom of Rifleman (Late) Kul Bahadur Gurung, who laid down his life on 06 August 1966 while valiantly fighting Chinese hostiles in NEFA (present-day Arunachal Pradesh). Demonstrating extraordinary courage, resolve, and comradeship during the operation, his heroic actions remain an inspirational chapter in the annals of the Force. The ceremony featured the solemn laying of wreaths and a motivational presentation recounting his valorous deed, culminating in a Guard of Honour. A total of 160 personnel, including senior officials, gathered to pay homage.
Simultaneously, in Churachandpur District, Manipur, Assam Rifles conducted a ceremonial tribute with full military honours at L. Semol Village in memory of Rifleman (Late) Lhunminthang Haokip of 28 Assam Rifles. A total of 35 personnel, including senior officials, assembled to lay wreaths, offer prayers, and express profound gratitude for his selfless service to the nation.
These twin ceremonies stood as a poignant testament to the Force’s deep sense of camaraderie and timeless ethos, reinforcing the core values of duty, patriotism, and supreme sacrifice among all ranks.
