Bishnupur: A stakeholder meeting-cum-sensitization programme on the Prime Minister – Road Accident Victims’ Hospitalization & Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) Scheme was held today at the Conference Hall of the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur.
Addressing the programme, Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur, Pooja Elangbam, highlighted the significance of the PM-RAHAT Scheme, stating that the provision of cashless treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh for eligible road accident victims will help reduce preventable deaths and disabilities resulting from road accidents. She said the scheme aims to ensure that every eligible victim receives prompt, cashless, and quality medical treatment without delay due to financial constraints.
The Deputy Commissioner further elaborated on the key objectives of the scheme, which include saving lives through immediate access to emergency medical care, eliminating financial barriers to emergency treatment, strengthening coordination among hospitals, police, transport authorities, and the district administration, improving emergency response systems, ensuring equitable access to healthcare, and enhancing public confidence that road accident victims will receive timely medical attention.
L. Nongdrenkhomba Meitei, State Rollout Manager, NIC, Dr. N. Johnson, and Dr. Salam Bitam Singh spoke as the resource persons during the programme. They sensitized the participants on their respective roles and responsibilities in the effective implementation of the PM-RAHAT Scheme, emphasizing the importance of timely reporting, seamless inter-departmental coordination, and adherence to prescribed protocols to ensure prompt medical assistance and cashless treatment for eligible road accident victims.
The programme was also attended by the Electronic Detailed Accident Report (eDAR) nodal officers from the Police, Transport, and Health Departments, along with representatives of PM-JAY empanelled hospitals in the district.
It may be mentioned that the scheme was launched by the Prime Minister on 13.02.2026 and has been named the Prime Minister – Road Accident Victims’ Hospitalization and Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT).
Key salient features include: Treatment covering up to ₹1.5 lakh per victim which will be provided, subject to a maximum cap of 7 days from the date of accident, on any category of road. The treatment cover will be available to all victims involved in road accidents caused by the use of motor vehicles.
