Chandel: Seven border villages came together as Assam Rifles organised a security meeting at Larong, Chandel District on 19 July 2026. Setting aside formal rigidity for an interactive dialogue, the event brought together 17 prominent civil society representatives from Larong Khunou, Larong Khullen, Libung, Duthang, Darchol, Challong and Vamku villages to strengthen military-civil cooperation and enhance community participation in the regional security framework.
The discussions focused closely on the prevailing security environment, highlighting how sustained cooperation between the security forces and the local populace maintains a peaceful atmosphere. Beyond core security concerns, the dialogue seamlessly transitioned into tangible socio-economic and youth empowerment initiatives designed to improve regional livelihood opportunities. The joint deliberations mapped out the promotion of mushroom cultivation and floriculture, the conduct of regular medical outreach programmes, the establishment of a computer training centre for local youth and the commencement of dedicated coaching classes for SSC (GD) and Agniveer aspirants to motivate young minds toward joining the Armed Forces. Expressing their gratitude for the continuous engagement, the village representatives reaffirmed their wholehearted support in maintaining harmony. The interaction concluded with a community lunch, reinforcing the enduring bond of mutual trust, respect and cooperation between Assam Rifles and the local populace in safeguarding the region’s stability.
